We’ve been raising pigs for the past ten years and they are lovely, intelligent, and curious creatures that make the farm a better place. We breed Large Blacks, Red Wattles, Gloucester Old Spots and Herefords, as these heritage breeds all do well on pasture. However, we need to offload a significant amount of them as we are just too busy with the willows, horses, rentals, and other farmy things to handle this many pigs running around. Also, feeding them has become quite a task. They are fed organic brewers grain and, scraps from the local restaurant, whey from the local dairy (Harley Farms Goat Dairy), our grain mix, and currently, tons of pumpkins leftover from the Halloween/Thanksgiving season.
